Saab in the Netherlands
Providing reliable and innovative solutions for The Netherlands in the fields of Defence and Civil Security through long-term balanced partnership.
In close collaboration with our customers, we discuss, formulate and integrate specific requirements for our products. For example, in the area of maritime product development, Saab in the Netherlands regularly exchanges ideas with relevant stakeholders through the Customer Advisory Board. Our customers formulate their needs and visions and thus make an important contribution to the development of new systems. At the same time, such valuable partnerships enable the creation of innovative products, solutions and services.

Barrracuda
Saab Barracuda´s advanced Mobile Camouflage System (MCS) is intended primarily for protection of military vehicles during movement and in combat and helps the vehicle to blend in with the surroundings. The MCS is a flexible solution which can be applied in several configurations using different types of materials. It provides stealth capability in the visual, near-infrared, short wave infrared, thermal infrared and broadband radar wavebands, dimming sensors, obscuring targeting and fooling smart ammunition and offers operational advantages.
Barracuda MCS offering full multi-spectral protection and passive temperature reduction, while at the same time passively reducing the power consumption considerably. The Mobile Camouflage System is essentially a tailor-made, multi-purpose, combat vest enhancing survivability and sustainability of a vehicle or platform in a specific operational environment and requirement. MCS is designed to not degenerate the operational use or features of the original vehicle configuration and consists of interlocked panels, attached to the vehicle by a variety of techniques, none of which require modification to the vehicles.
In order to stay undetected on the battlefield it is important to think of all aspects of what a platform or soldier emits. With the sensors and technology available today even the smallest surfaces on platforms, or smaller objects such as weapons can be detected. To solve this issue, and achieve a full multispectral capability, Saab Barracuda have developed a multispectral tape that can be used for purposes like these. This tape can be produced for any environment, and has different patterns, urban multicam being one example.
The Barracuda camouflage system has been developed in close cooperation with the armed forces in Sweden, Germany, NATO and other key organizations. Saab Barracuda provides innovative solutions to over 45 countries.

RBS 70 NG
Air-based threats are changing and with them the requirements for ground-based air defence systems. In addition to systems of greater operational ranges of up to 200 kilometers, short range air defence systems, integrated on manoeuvrable platforms such as vehicles, fills the gaps of any air defence and thus offer complete coverage.
A total of 19 countries, including several NATO countries, have procured more than 1600 units of the RBS 70 and RBS 70 NG to date, in addition to more than 18,000 missiles. The BOLIDE missile is the latest iteration of RBS 70 missile with an altitude coverage of up to 5 kilometers and an effective intercept range of more than 9 kilometers, the missile hits its target at a speed of Mach 2. The shaped charge of the guided missile is used to successfully engage armored targets such as UAV, helicopters, fixed wing aircraft. The flexibility of the RBS 70 NG design creates a wide range of uses within the same mission. The system can be deployed rapidly and operated in a timely manner from any location, from a mobile vehicle platform or even remotely via a ship-integrated application using the modular vision system. Long-term static defence of strategic assets can also be achieved through a stand-alone, remotely controlled configuration.
With few exceptions, most missiles in the short-range category use guidance systems with infrared target seeker. These guided missiles can be eliminated using simple countermeasures such as flares, and thus have difficulty engaging targets that are distorted by such external heat sources as burning object or even the sun. By using state-of-the-art components and technologies, the RBS 70 NG remains on target unaffected by any countermeasures, heat sources and other interfering influences. The main reason for this is that, during optical tracking, the operator on the ground can use manual control at any time after launch and thus change the target point, supported by improved aiming aids and auto-trackers. Furthermore, if one suddenly realizes that a target supposed to be engaged is not the enemy, the launch can be aborted in flight.” The use of the RBS 70 NG requires only two personnel and creates maximum flexibility and operational freedom for armed forces. The system is designed to be used in any climate, from arctic to desert. The cost per shot are relatively inexpensive.
In order to keep pace with the constantly changing demands in the domain of ground-based air defence, a wide range of system requirements must be fulfilled. The focus is on mobility, scalability, networking of different systems and platforms as well as cost efficiency, reliability and modularity. Modularity offers the opportunity to reduce costs and adapt to a customer’s specific requirements.

Giraffe 1X
Lightweight multi-mission surveillance radar
Giraffe 1X is an ideal air surveillance component in the Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) domain that provides ground based air defence commanders with engagement quality target data, drone detection and Counter-Artillery, Rocket and Mortar (C-RAM) sense and warn within a single solution. It is the ideal main sensor for a Very Short Range Radar (VSHORAD) system and can be used as a gap filler that complements larger GBAD systems, or as a Counter-UAS (C-UAS) solution.
